I study MSC computer science. I recently got my dissertation results and they gave me 35% and the feedback i received does not align with the final dissertation and final project that i submitted to the uni portal.
I had a project demo almost a week before final dissertation submission deadline. During the presentation demo the professors said that my project barely satisfies the MSC requirements and that I should add some more significant changes to the project for it to pass the bar. They suggested me what features i should add and everything that will make my project passable without any issues.
I took their suggestions and in the next few days did the big overhaul to my project, I added a new ML model based on various relevant datasets, trained a sentiment analysis model, added NLP parsing and voice recognition among the other things. After this i did proper evaluation and mentioned all this in section by section format in my final dissertation report. I have mentioned which datasets i chose, the rationale behind them, what methods i used for training the ML models, why did I use this particular method and not the other methods etc. I added relevant code snippets along with the relevant screenshots of the project showing its implementation.
But the feedback i received from both the markers says that my project doesn’t have any AI features or my project doesn’t have a custom trained ML model when in reality I do have these features and I have mentioned and explained them clearly along with proper citations and references and everything.
I agree with some comments like “the candidate should be more critical in the conclusion and future work,” but the technical feedback doesn’t reflect what’s actually in my report.
It almost seems like the markers graded my project based on the version i displayed during the demo and not the actual final version of the project and dissertation that i uploaded on the uni portal. Because my final version satisfies all the minimum bars set by the university and even exceeds them.
I have contacted them via email and explained them point by point about all this im waiting on their reply. I get that some markers can be harsh but after reading their feedbacks it seems like they didn't read my dissertation end to end or just skimmed over it and drew all the conclusions from my demo stage.
To verify, I asked a few peers (who are taking a few days to review it) and even ran both my dissertation and the feedback through multiple LLMs (like ChatGPT, claude etc.) all consistently point out the same thing: there’s a mismatch between my final submission and the feedback given.
I received an email after the results were announced saying that I have failed the dissertation and I have to appear for a resit and submit the dissertation again.
What can I do in this case ? What possible options do I have ?
Should I escalate this matter and contact my Programme Director ?
Sorry for the long post, I’m just really anxious and confused right now and don’t know what the best next step is. Any advice would mean a lot.
