🎓 Personal Statement Tips & Choosing Your University – Ask Us Anything!

Hi everyone 👋

We know that Year 13 students are deep in the UCAS zone right now especially with the new personal statement format for 2026 entry!

Whether you're feeling confident or totally stuck, this thread is here to help you write a strong personal statement and make smart university choices.

We’ll be sharing tips, answering questions, and linking useful resources. Feel free to jump in with your own advice too!

Personal Statement: What’s Changed?

This year, UCAS has replaced the traditional freeform personal statement with three structured questions:

1.

Why do you want to study this course or subject? What's your motivation for the course

2.

How have your qualifications and studies helped you to prepare for this course or subject?

3.

What else have you done to prepare outside of education, and why are these experiences useful?

Top Tips!

Be specific: Mention books, projects, or experiences that sparked your interest.

Show progression: Talk about how your skills or understanding have developed. Link to your future: Whether it’s a career or further study, show your direction.

💬 Ask Us Anything Whether you're wondering how to stand out, what admissions tutors look for, or how to choose between offers drop your questions below! We’ll be checking in regularly to reply.

Good luck to all Year 13s you’ve got this 💪

Hi! I'm interested in doing business analytics - how have you found your course?

Good afternoon,

Ronnie is currently out of the office; however, you can message him directly using our unibuddy ambassador scheme here. Then he will be able to inform you of the course and answer any questions you may have.

When I was applying to the university, I found it very helpful to attend an Open Day. However, for students who live far away or do not have access to an Open Day, there is a Virtual Tour that prospective students can view from the comfort of their own homes. I highly recommend taking a look at the Virtual Tour, as it offers an insightful view of the campus.

The University of Reading assesses every application on an individual merit basis, ensuring that every student's application is considered; this is the contextual offers scheme. However, this does not mean that every student receives an offer from the university.

All the best,
Ella
