Entrepreneurship vs Business Management

Can someone help me choose between these courses?

I understand there will be different modules in different universities and that there's is a great difference between the two courses but I'm under the impression that a degree in entrepreneurship seems a bit... silly to choose.

I want to run my own business in the near future and I'm hoping to find some connections to do this in uni so a degree in entrepreneurship would make sense. However, it doesn't make sense for me to be getting taught by someone who isn't a business owner themselves. I'm also happy with gaining some industry knowledge by spending a few years in employment.

How desired is an employee with an entrepreneurship degree over a business management degree?

Am I better off taking business management with some entrepreneurship modules over a full on entrepreneurship degree?

Hi Dariyan,
It’s great that you’re already thinking about starting your own business and considering how your degree choice could support that goal. Both Entrepreneurship and Business Management degrees can lead you to success as a future entrepreneur; it really depends on how you want to develop your skills and experience during your time at university.

At London South Bank University (LSBU), we offer the BA (Hons) Business Management degree, which includes options to specialise in Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Finance, and other areas. Choosing Business Management with Entrepreneurship modules can often give you the best of both worlds: a strong foundation in key business disciplines like marketing, operations, and finance, alongside the creativity and innovation skills needed to start and run your own company. Employers also tend to view a Business Management degree as very versatile, which can give you flexibility if you decide to work for a few years before launching your own business.

What really makes LSBU stand out is the hands-on enterprise support available through Start-Up London and South Bank Starters, the university’s dedicated business incubator. These initiatives give students and graduates free access to mentorship, workshops, funding opportunities, and co-working spaces to help them turn their business ideas into reality. You’ll also be surrounded by like-minded, entrepreneurial students from across the university, many of whom have gone on to launch successful ventures in London and beyond.

In terms of employability, a degree in Business Management with Entrepreneurship is often seen as more balanced than a pure Entrepreneurship degree. It shows employers that you understand both how to manage and how to innovate, skills that are highly valued in growing businesses and startups alike. And if your long-term goal is self-employment, you’ll leave LSBU with not only the knowledge but also the practical experience and network to get started.

Suppose you’d like to explore your options further. In that case, LSBU is hosting an Open Day on Saturday, 15th November, where you can meet our Business School lecturers, talk to student entrepreneurs, and see the enterprise spaces where Start-Up London and South Bank Starters operate.

👉 You can sign up here: LSBU Open Day.
👉 You can also chat with our students through our Unibuddy platform: Chat with our students.

In short, you’re thinking in exactly the right way, and studying Business Management with Entrepreneurship at LSBU could give you the perfect mix of knowledge, experience, and connections to build your future business.
