Applied without a UCAS Reference - process to go through now

Hi.

I need som urgent help.

I just submitted my UCAS application before today’s deadline which is a relief.

However, I’m applying as an independent student and my referee had internet connection issues today and had been having them for some days apparently and so could not receive the UCAS request for them to provide my reference.

I got so worried about this I phoned UCAS and the operator said I had to submit the application without a reference and contact my university choices as soon as it got resolved to sort this out. Then, my referee could send them the reference via email.

Will this work or will they judge me negatively for not providing a UCAS reference in the usually fashion?

Its not ideal - it'll make Admissions staff grind their teeth, but they wont mark you down because of it.

Should I get my referee to send the email or forward on a message from my referee?

Will they attach the reference sent by email to my application? If so, how? Do they like have some file for everyone?

Your referee needs to send the reference direct from their own email to the admissions team at each of your Unis - make sure they include your UCAS id number.

Thanks for your help.

But, what about my referee’s details ie their address, full name, organisation, phone number etc? That’s usually included on the UCAS application? Should I get my referee to add all of that too in the email or not?

Yes, that might be useful to the Universities.

I sent off my UCAS application without a reference due to poor internet connection.

I’ve emailed certain universities that I haven’t applied to yet but am thinking of applying to and they said that once they’ve received my application and assessed it, they will provide “instructions” to my referee to get a reference from them.

But, do you know what exactly is meant by this?

What sort of instructions will they ask for?

PS: my private tutor only works with a small amount of people so it’s not like they have a massive business with a website or anything so is that going to come across as dodgy or not?

Are you an early applicant (eg Medicine, Vet, Dentistry)? If so the deadline was 15th Oct 6pm UK time

Oxford Law is probably on her application form again with grades in hand, not via a school

If you have provided them with the name and email of your referee, they will just email them directly to ask for a reference to be sent directly to that Uni.
I can't help but feel like we've covered all this before.
