Medical and Nursing Electives Abroad

Hey everyone,

I’m really interested in hearing what matters most to students when choosing an overseas elective — things like location, supervision, clinical exposure, safety, or cost.

If you’ve already done an elective abroad (or are planning one), what’s been the hardest part of arranging it? Are there destinations or organisations you’d recommend or avoid?

I’m collecting insights to understand what students actually value most, so any honest feedback would be super helpful!

Hi,

I am in my second nursing year at the moment and we’ll be having our elective in 2026 ☺️. Most PART 3 students that I heard from went to either Africa or Asia. Thankfully my university has a wide range of countries that we can do our elective in and they recently just opened a placement in America. But I’m unlikely to go there because of the high cost.
Overall I am currently thinking about Vietnam because it’s cost-effective and also safe at the same time😃 And i’d probably recommend you to also choose somewhere safe and not too expensive (unless if you have the savings for it).
Are you thinking of any specific country ? and why?
