Hi there,

If you are getting an NHS bursary you would not be eligible for funding with Student Finance.

Thanks, Drew

It’s not an NHS bursary, it comes under a different category as they are employing us

Hi there,

What is the name of the funding that you get from the NHS? Is this for the 2025/26 academic year and what year of study are you in?

Thanks, Drew

The tuition funding is payed by health education England, it’s not a bursary, you are employed as a trainee clinical psychologist as a Band 6 employee.

Many dclin universities advertise that you can apply for doctoral loan funding alongside this as lots of trainees commute large distances as part of the course and undertake additional training in therapy modalities. Trainees have been successful in getting the loan, though only when their universities are aware of their eligibility for funding, some trainees have been unsuccessful when the people assessing the loan don’t have a knowledge of the course and the differences

Im in year two of my studies for 25/26, my university has it listed on student finance as their course approved list - I’d just like confirmation that if there were to be confusion over eligibility from my course, what student finances stance is

This is a list of the types funding that will make you ineligible for the Doctoral Loan with us:

UK Research and Innovation (Research Council) funding

Social work bursary

Educational Psychology Bursary

NHS bursary

National Institute for Health Research bursary

So, if the funding you currently receive isn't any of these things then you should be fine to apply for the Doctoral Loan with us.

Just to check, has the university advised or recommend that you apply to us? It's just they'll need to confirm your registration to us in order for any payments to be released.

Thanks, Graeme
