SFE and Special Support Loan

Hi there!,

I have recently started in University but I am rather confused, I applied for the Special Support Loan due to being informed I could claim this due to receiving DLA for my 4 year old by SFE, I was then informed from another member of SFE that this does not count and then informed again I was eligible? Can anyone help. I do get the housing benefit from Universal Credit but the only evidence that was requested was evidence of study status? I was then informed to upload my child's DLA entitlement letter but nothing about UC?. Any help is appreciated as this is very confusing!

Hi there. You would only be entitled to the Special Support Loan (SSL) if you are receiving DLA for yourself, not for a child. There are other eligibility categories for the SSL like receiving PIP, or being treated as incapable of work for a period of 28 weeks or more.

Are you a lone parent? Is your child in education or have they not reached school age yet? Thanks, Leah.
