Are you eligible for contextual offers?

The usual advice for your 5 UCAS choices is :
1 choice just above your predicted grades - one grade and not in a vital subject.
3 choices at your predicted grades - these are you most likely offers.
1 choice well below your predicted grades as your potential Insurance choice.

As History is not a mega-competitive subject, even at A grade Unis, you could even have two risky choices as you might get offers, but be prepared for No. 'RG' is nothing special, it doesn't mean 'better' course, however you think you can measure this, and it certainly doesn't mean that you will enjoy the course or like being at that Uni.

History is a vast, wide ranging, degree subject, and each course at each Uni will be very different in 'flavour' and content. Make sure that you look closely at the optional units available in each year of each course and that it really is what you want to do for 3 years.

I know someone who got CDD in his actual A-Levels and his predicted grades were barely higher. He still managed to get into Royal Holloway and do computer science

Which has no relevance to the OP's question, even if it was true.

I’m currently stuck between Politics and IR, which is generally the same at every university, or History and Philosophy particularly at the University of Nottingham - however it is generally the same course everywhere. I also really like the Birmingham history course
