Hey @sharnicezlama

Honestly, there isn’t anything to say to guarantee you a place. I know you have already probably heard this many times, but the main thing that universities are looking for is that your personal statement is unique to you, not a specific sentence.

What makes a personal statement stand out is that it is genuine and unique to you and your experiences. Show your passion and motivations for wanting to study the course, what experiences interested you in this course, and what you have learnt from them?

So instead of focusing what you think they want to hear, a good starting point is to make a few mind maps/bullet point lists of your experiences and reflect on why these have made you want to choose this course.

I hope this helps, best of luck with your personal statement writing, and let me know if you have any questions .

Hey there 👋

My name is Siobhan and I’m a recent graduate from the University of Lancashire 🎓 this is a great question and I personally have helped in the selection process for my university course so can offer some advice of what they look for!

To be completely honest, there isn’t a particular sentence that universities look for in personal statements but rather you being able to translate passion and understanding in your statements all together.

Being able to show enthusiasm about the course and why is the key thing that you need to address in your statement. You can use a specific example to make it more personal and real.

If you have done any work experience, volunteering, part-time work, or extra reading then you can briefly explain what you learned and more importantly how it connects to the course!

A good understanding of the degree, expected modules and career paths are really important to show that you are committed and comprehend what you are getting into!

A mix of these things can help your statement stick out from others! Make sure to make it personal as unis aren’t looking for fancy words or perfection!

Hope this helps at all and please let me know if you have any more questions
