is it worth doing a level maths for a degree apprenticeship as a private candidate?

i was looking at many vacancies and they are asking for a minimum of a grade B at a level maths. i am interested in doing it but i wanna know if it is too late to enter as a private candidate, or if it is even worth the hassle in the first place. i did get a 7 at gcse maths in 2023 but the a level ones will be in summer 2026. please lmk ty

Helo!

I would first recommend reaching directly out to the companies to see if they're flexible, I got 4offers last year 3 of which required a levels I did not have

While it was listed as a requirement they noted my interest and initiative and allowed me to progress to apply reguardless

It’s excellent that you’re taking the initiative to explore what qualifications are required for your future goals. Many university courses and career pathways, particularly in finance, economics, and technology, do require a minimum of a grade B in A-level Mathematics, as this reflects a strong foundation in numeracy and analytical thinking. Given that you achieved a grade 7 in GCSE Maths in 2023, you’ve already demonstrated solid ability in the subject. While registering as a private candidate for A-level Maths in summer 2026 is still possible, it does require early planning and independent study, which can be challenging without classroom support. Whether it’s worth pursuing depends on how essential the qualification is for your intended degree or career path. At London South Bank University (LSBU), we recognise a range of qualifications and offer flexible entry routes, including foundation years, for students who may not meet standard entry requirements. However, holding A-level Maths can certainly enhance your academic and professional prospects. If you’re committed and willing to invest the time, it could be a valuable step toward broadening your future opportunities.
