Does uni choice matter

Hi guys I’m applying for business analytics at qmul , Bristol , Surrey , Exeter and Kcl with predicted A,A,distinction . I wanted to firm Qmul due to option for a year abroad however I heard that Bristol has a better rep. I would firm kcl but the requirements are A*AA and I’m unsure I can achieve that . I was wondering if employers look at what uni you go to or if they even care .I also wanted to know what the stereotypes behind each university was and if they were true .

There are many misconceptions about 'which Uni' and how employers regard them - and most of them are incorrect. Employers do not constantly check league table positions, and use this as a sift for job applications. Your career chances will ultimately come down to what else you did at University and what makes you 'an interesting person' plus relevant work-experience such as work placements, internships etc - and your ability to write a good job application, and perform well at interview. Any particular University 'badge' is not going to be the main determinant in your career.

Hi @badman777222
I’d say yes every university does have its stereotypes. But when choosing where to study, it’s really important to look beyond that. Think about things like employability support, career opportunities, and how the university helps you prepare for life after graduation.

Have you attended any open days yet? They’re a great way to get a real feel for the place and to ask as many questions as you like nothing beats seeing it for yourself!

Heres the link for our open days! https://bit.ly/4aHFLz5

Hiya @badman777222 ,

Open Days are a great way of getting a feel for the university environment and teaching style. Open Days also gives you an opportunity to speak to current students and and academic staff to see if the course is the best fit for you 🙂 Maybe you can look into some industry partners these departments have worked with or message some alumni who have graduated to find out more 🤗
Wishing you the best of luck in whatever decision you make 🙂

Hi badman777222,

I’m at Exeter, so I can give you a bit of insight from this side!

Exeter’s a great choice for Business Analytics - it’s well respected, especially for business-related courses through the University of Exeter Business School, which has a really good reputation with employers. The course is quite practical, with a focus on data analysis, problem-solving, and real-world applications, and there are lots of opportunities for placements, networking, and career support through things like the Career Zone and employer events.

In terms of how much employers care about which uni you go to - for most business roles, what really matters is your grades, skills, experience, and how you present yourself, rather than the exact ranking of your uni. Exeter definitely carries weight on your CV, and its strong links with employers can help you get a head start.

As for the general vibe - Exeter has a friendly, campus-based atmosphere, with a mix of people from all backgrounds. The business school is quite international, so you’ll meet students from all over the world. It’s a good balance of academic focus and a nice social life too.

So if you’re considering Exeter, it’s a great option both academically and in terms of student experience - and employers absolutely do recognise it.

Hope this helps 🙂

Hi Klaudia thank you for your response Exeter is definitely inviting and I was hoping if you would be able to answer some of my question. My main concern is my grades and was wondering if I would be able to gain an offer .
