🛡️ Student Safety at Nottingham

What you need to know

Starting university is exciting, but feeling safe and supported is just as important as choosing the right course. At the University of Nottingham, student safety is a top priority, with a range of measures in place to help you feel confident from day one.

🏙️ How safe is Nottingham? Nottingham has held Purple Flag status since 2010, recognising it as a safe and welcoming city for students, especially at night. Nottingham has a friendly atmosphere and is a great place to live, study and explore. From reliable transport to student-friendly venues, the city is designed to support a positive university experience.

🔒Safety on campus and in halls The university offers 24/7 campus security and secure accommodation, so you can focus on your studies without worry. Students are encouraged to download the ‘SafeZone’ app, which connects you directly to campus security and emergency support. Simple safety tips include:

Getting to know your surroundings early on

Closing and locking doors and windows

Keeping valuables out of sight

Using reputable taxi services and avoiding walking alone at night

🧠 Wellbeing support when you need it. Safety isn’t just physical. It’s about feeling supported too. Nottingham’s Wellbeing Support Portal offers expert advice, self-help resources and guidance on everything from mental health to adjusting to university life. Whether you need someone to talk to or just want to explore quiet spaces, help is always nearby.

🚍 Getting around safely Nottingham is easy to navigate, with excellent tram and bus links across the city. There’s even a free hopper bus between campuses, making it simple to travel safely and independently. Feeling safe helps you thrive, and the University of Nottingham works hard to make sure every student feels secure, supported and confident. Got your own safety tips or questions? Drop them below 👇
