Second degree funding

Hi , I've been trying to get information but I seem to get different responses from different sources so hopefully someone can enlighten me .

I ve finished a BS(Hons) in Health with social work . Would I be able to switch careers now and do a Nursing degree ,Midwifery or Psychology degree?
What I am actually interested is , does it have to be just part time in order to qualify for funding Student loan/ maintenance loan . Or can it also be full time ? ... or I read it can even be online one if you are studying Psychology?? I m very confused and I can't really get to much information from Gov.uk
Also is there a list of accredited universities that can offer this or it can be any universities ?

Thank you very much for any answers.

Nursing and midwifery courses are classed as exceptions when studied as a second degree and are eligible for undergraduate funding (both tuition and maintenance loans). Psychology is an exception course if studied part time. For the SFE reps to confirm if the course(s) you wish to study is eligible, you need to give the name of the uni, the full name of the course and the start date.

Thank you very much for the reply, it makes a bit more sense. I will wait for a Sfe advisor to confirm.
I wanted to enroll for the January intake for the Adult Nursing BSc (Hons) with Coventry University, UCAS code HU01, duration of the course 3 years , full time .
I was worried about the funding as I work full time so I will have to drop my hours to half I think . Thank you again and have a lovely weekend.

Hi Drew , I was actually hoping for a more official answer as the person who responded is not an SFE official adviser . Of you could shed some light I would be very grateful. Thank you 🙂

Yes, of course - to clarify, Nursing and Midwifery courses are exceptions. So, you'll be entitled to funding regardless of your previous study. So, you'd be entitled to the Tuition and Maintenance Loans, plus any grants if applicable.

Psychology is a part-time exception only. So, if you decide to study this part-time you'll be entitled to the Tuition Fee Loan. Also, so long as this course isn't distance learning, you may be entitled to a part-time Maintenance Loan too.

Thanks, Graeme

Hi ,

So I have made the application last week and it was saying my identity is being checked, now when I logged in to the account it was asking for me to submit evidence , my share code and my settlement letter , I closed that tab to get the code and when I reopened the student finance tab , that upload the documents disappeared... I am a bit confused if to upload the documents or not .. now when I click the Identity check tab , it will ask if I am a Uk national or no , when I press no ( I have settled status, under the EU settlement scheme) it will say we are checking with the home office , the prompt to upload the letter and code has disappeared..

Thank you

Hi there, we can't access accounts on this platform. If we've previously requested this evidence then do upload it to your account. If not and there's no request for this under your 'to do list' then nothing is needed at this time. Thanks, Jason
