BTEC into Medicine/Pharmacy and in Europe

I am doing BTEC Level 3 Applied Science Extended Diploma as I was unable to do A-Levels unfortunately. However, I am attempting to achieve (D*D*D) at the very least, if not all Distinction Stars. I am wondering if this BTEC combined with like a 8-8 in Combined Science will get me into medical school or pharmacy school anywhere in UK.

I know pharmacy school is probably far easier to enter with this qualification within the UK, however I have seen medical schools in Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria etc where they may just want you to pass any entrance exams rather then ask for specific grades or A-Levels.

My question is, whether I have a good chance at entering medical school in Europe as long as I pass entrance exams and whether it is possible to do so. Also, does anyone know any universities that may accept the BTEC in the EU.

It should definitely be doable, I have just started pharmacy with a BTEC in applied science grade D D D, and only a 5-5 in combined science higher

it definitely is, and worst comes to worst you can always do a foundation year. most unis only ask for 4 and above in the core gcses.

Most UK MPharm courses want a 6 at the minimum but some unis like Aston as long as you got all 4s/Cs you would be fine. My advice would be aim for the 6 if you can. Even better if you achieve it you might change you mind in the future so would be good for many more healthcare courses like biomed at russell group unis.

There are many MPharm courses that will accept a BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science, some may want specific Chem units. Remember it doesnt matter where you train as a Pharmacist - all courses lead to exactly the same qualification and professional status :
Pharmacy, MPharm (Hons) Degree Course UK Lancashire
Pharmacy MPharm Brighton
Pharmacy | Aston University

For Medicine, the majority of Unis will want A levels for the 5 year course, however Bristol will accept 'DDD in Applied Science BTEC National Level 3 Extended Diploma, with Distinctions in five specified Chemistry units' but they also want grade 7 in GCSE Maths.

Does anyone know whether medical schools in like Europe would take it? I have done some reading and some just require you to get a good score on the entrance exam, but I just want to know if there is a chance, especially in Eastern Europe.

I think in Bulgaria - Sofia accept BTEC for medicine. I know that Plovdiv only want a levels.

Hi,

With the BTEC Level 3 Applied Science Extended Diploma, you can get into Pharmacy in the UK. However, it’s best to check individual university websites, as entry requirements can vary.

UK Medical schools generally require A-levels, but many European universities accept students with a BTEC, provided you pass their entrance exams. If you’re unsure, contacting admissions directly is a good idea.

Hope this helps,
