Pharmacy Predicted Grades

Hi,
I have achieved ABB for my predicted grades and really want to apply for universities like Bath, Birmingham, Nottingham and Newcastle for MPharm. Nottingham requires AAA and the others AAB. I am eligible for the contextual offer for Nottingham but I am still two grades below. What should I do?

Are you eligible for a standard contextual offer (1 grade reduction) or an enhanced contextual offer (2 grade reduction)?

Hi there,

There are usually thousands of applicants for MPharm courses every year, so if you don't meet the university's entry requirements for grades, then it's likely you won't be invited for an interview as they have to be picky with who they take.

If your predicted grades definitely won't meet the entry requirements, then I'd look at applying elsewhere. It doesn't matter where you get your MPharm degree, as they will all be accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). The syllabus at each uni will be the same, if not very similar.

Here are some universities for the MPharm, where the entry requirements are ABB or lower:

Bangor - ABB

Bradford - ABB

Cardiff - AAB-ABB

De Montfort (Leicester) - BBB

Keele - ABB

Lancashire (formerly UCLAN) - BBB

Portsmouth - ABB-BBB

Sunderland - BBB

Swansea - AAB-BBB

Wolverhampton - BBB

Aston - ABB-BBB

Kingston - AAB-BBB

LJMU also offers an MPharm course, with entry requirements of BBB, so it would be silly if I didn't give you some more info! I'll pop the link to our website below and just give you some key points about what we offer:

Accredited by GPhC

LJMU is one of the oldest providers for pharmacy education in Europe, delivering courses since 1849

State of the art simulation suite with AI mannequin patients, consultation room, dispensary, and the latest prescribing software

The point of this is to say that you do have plenty of options available to you! I hope this helped

Its fine having one 'risky' choice just above your predicted grades - an AAB Uni may still interview you with ABB, but be prepared for No. Make sure your other choices are more realistic, ABB or BBB. Remember - it does not matter where you do an MPharm. Its an accredited course with a set syllabus so there is not 'better' course., and for all Healthcare courses, the RG tag is totally irrelevant.

That puts you one grade off their contextual offer. A prediction of A in chemistry would help.

Bath, possibly, but it depends entirely on the standard of applicants so impossible to predict.

Hi @user273838

I see you have already had some excellent answers! I'd love to add on a bit.

It is perfectly fine to have an aspirational option, but make sure only one of your options is above your predicted grades due to the competitive nature of your course. Also make sure one of your options is a safety choice, in this case its a university you would be happy to attend but your it would be a lower requirement than you predicted grades if possible.

For example, at the University of Lancashire, our grade requirements is BBB (must include chemistry or biology, then a second science).

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (University of Central Lancashire)

Any chance of delaying your application until January and trying to get at least one of your predictions upgraded?

Incorrect - the Bath Pharmacy contextual offer is actually

BBB or ABC in three A levels including B in Chemistry and B in one other science or mathematics subject. Pharmacy MPharm (Hons)

lol I’m in the same situation. We had an exam my teacher said sure she’d predict me an A so based off that I was chill. Until she went and said that I’d only get that A if I get an A* in the next exam. Let’s just say I have a bad feeling I performed not that well. And now I’m looking at ABB at most 🙁
