Changing gcse course

Hey, in year 9 I picked to do art for my gcses, but I have come to the abrupt realisation that I have no skill whatsoever, and the coursework has been taking up all my time at home when I should be revising for other subjects. I don't know why I picked it since I'm fairly academic and have been predicted 7s 8s and 9s in subjects like languages and humanities. It's just coming up to the October half-term, do you think it's too late for me to switch to a subject like RE, geography or business (providing there is space in the timetable 😭) - I'm pretty sure if I got my hands on a friends notes and a couple of PowerPoints I'd be able to catch up, but would my teachers allow it? Thanks!
Edit: I successfully changed to business studies! Now I just have seven weeks of catching up to do over the holidays 😭 Super happy anyways though!!!

Year 10

It could be possible but it really depends on your school. They may be less keen if you started in Year 9, but the only way to find out is to speak to relevant staff at your school.

It's very late to be changing options - we have a half-term limit and you've missed over a year of lessons.

Would they let you continue to attend the Art lessons but not enter the exam if swapping is not possible?

Sorry, I think I was unclear in my first comment, I’ve been doing the course for about 5 weeks but we had to choose our options at the end of year 9…does this increase my prospects of swapping to RE or geography? Thanks 😊

Ah, yes you do have a greater chance as you could catch up over half-term. See someone tomorrow and get this request in writing from a parent.

Hi @Isabelle Prince ,

I'm sorry to hear you are unhappy with your choice! Firstly, you need to discuss this with your school as different schools have different rules on this. If your confident this GCSE would not be beneficial for you and will hinder your ability to succeed on your other courses, make sure to make that clear. Try talking with your tutor, or if you can contact your head of year I'm sure they will be happy to help you out!

I really hope you are able to change, but if not just try and enjoy your time doing the course.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (University of Lancashire)

Thanks so much everyone, I’ll try ask my teacher who is head of all the timetabling tomorrow and post further updates 🥲
