Bangor University shared kitchens

Hi, I’ve received an offer to study at Bangor and I’m looking into accommodation. I’d like to know how the shared kitchens in the flats are treated, are they often left messy etc?

Hello!

Firstly, congratulations on receiving an offer to study at Bangor!

How clean/tidy the shared kitchens are is entirely dependant on you and your flatmates. I found mine was kept relatively clean, but have heard differently from friends.

In the kitchen, you'll have your own cupboards/drawer and shelf in the fridge and freezer, which is typically up to you to keep clean. So if you all keep your spaces clean and tidy up after yourselves, you shouldn't have an issue!

There is a cleaner who will hoover the corridor and kitchen and empty the bins once a week - all other cleaning is down to you guys!

I hope this helps!

Hi supersecretinfo,

What Steph says here is spot on. It is all very dependent on the rest of the flat, but in addition to this, there are checks every week from the mentors (older students who live in the block) MORE ON MENTORS HERE. If the kitchen is in a state, the mentors will step in to ensure that those who don't pull their weight can see the effect their behaviour is having on others. When I was a student 10 ish years ago, this worked really well and the few times the kitchen would get in a state, the mentor stepped in and everyone started pulling their weight again.

Thanks
