What do you want to do in the future?

As above, it depends entirely on what you want to do after leaving school - any idea about a possible Uni subject or future career area?

What appeals to you about each of these A level subjects?

Hi there,

Bio, Chem and either of these subjects would be a solid combo as it show both scientific/maths skills and essay writing/critical skills, which will show unis your versatility - Bath certainly look for this in certain courses.

It does indeed depend on what subject area you're interested for uni/work/apprenticeship after A-Levels.

Both Sociology and Psychology are respected subjects and have a scientific element in their research methods modules. Psychology focusses more on how individuals work, whereas Sociology focuses more on how societies/groups work. Personally I did A-Level Chemistry alongside Psychology and found it a varied and manageable combination and found the mixture of the scientific method/stats with the real-life applications to the human mind and behaviour really interesting and different to anything I'd learnt before. Very eye-opening.

Please note though that whilst some unis consider Psychology a science, whereas this is much rarer for Sociology. It shouldn't affect what courses you can do, but just something to be aware of. Also, just to note that whilst these are different from your standard sciences, there will still be content to learn such as studies, methods and arguments - but hopefully because the content will be different it will give you some variety.

I hope this helps a bit and best of luck! 🙂

@Minahilsx
I did a degree in Sociology and a Masters in Psychology they are both great subjects to do. Many of the people I met doing Psychology were more science leaning - Psychology degree's are usually a Bachelor of Science, and Sociology is a Bachelor of Arts. It does depend what you want to do career wise, if you want to take a sciency route Psychology might be better

Take Psychology as your 3rd subject because it gives you option (and higher chance) to go into Psychology degree later on

Hi, I'm in Year 12 currently studying Psychology. I was doing Sociology as well but decided to drop it. I would say that it doesn't really matter either way but Sociology is a lot more essay-based whereas Psychology is a mix of different types of questions. Also as Psychology is more scientific so would go well with biology.

I feel like they are both pretty content heavy. sociology is only around 5 topics in total (but they are very content heavy) and psychology is around 11 (so content heavy but I would say it is more varied). It depends whether you prefer all essay-writing (Sociology) or a mix of 1-16 mark questions (Psychology). Hope this helps 😀

What subject do you prefer then? Pick that one.

Are you interested in applying to Cambridge?

Both are good a-levels.
What do you want to do after your a-levels?
Which do you think you will enjoy the most and think you will do best in?
I cant comment on psychology, but i did sociology and loved it.
