My son is looking to apply to Dentistry in 2027. He is in his first year of Alevels.

First question, when does he need to apply for UCAT exam?

Second question, does he need to start looking and applying for Uni in August 2026? And is that in September 2026?

Hi. So, he will need to take the UCAT during summer of 2026. You can take the exam anytime between July-September 2026. Once he has got the results, he can then decide which unis to apply, and submit his uni applications by the 15 Oct 2026.

I would like to add, dentistry is very competitive (10,000 applicants to 1,100 spots) and by no means am I trying to demoralise but most universities rely completely on UCAT or have it as a big portion of their application process. So I would say to encourage him to practice early!
