Not sure if a postgraduate degree in Games is for you?

Hi everyone, it’s Kieran here, Course Director for PG Games at University of Staffordshire. If you’ve finished your undergraduate degree and feel like you’re not quite ready for industry just yet whether your portfolio needs a little more work, or you just want to explore a specific area of games development in greater depth postgraduate Games courses are designed to help you make that next step with confidence.

We often describe our postgraduate courses as a kind of finishing school for games professionals. They give you the time, space and mentorship to refine your skills, specialise in your chosen discipline, and create portfolio-ready work that stands out to studios and employers.

Here’s what makes the experience unique:

1. Dive deeper into your discipline whether you’re focused on concept art, 3D games art, games design, or games programming, MA and MSc courses let you tailor your projects to your personal goals.
2. Develop a professional portfolio each module is designed to push your work towards industry standard. If you’re feeling your portfolio isn’t quite there yet, this is where you’ll close that gap.
3. Collaborate on award-winning projects many of our postgraduate students work together in small, interdisciplinary teams to produce games that go on to win national awards. (Spoiler: we’ve picked up a few awards along the way, including 5 Game Republic wins, three TIGA Game nominations, four TIGA Postgraduate awards, and Rookies of the Year Award).
4. Big pool of experts we have over 75 academics in the Staffordshire Games Institute, every one of them is an expert and knowledge leader in their discipline, you’ll be surrounded by people shaping the future of games and interactive media.
5. Build your own creative identity pursuing a postgraduate games course is your opportunity to explore who you are as a developer, artist, or designer, and to define the kind of work you want to be known for.
