its your first set of tests so its never that deep. focus on understanding the content you learn rather than memorising key facts as it helps a ton in application style questions which do make up a decent bit of your papers (assuming u do bio, chem or bio and chem for medicine)

allery chemistry on youtube is good for understanding content as well as reading over textbooks or chemguide.com
ms estruc or whatever her name is for biology is good aswell on youtube

you can use the NFT structure aswell to help learn - N = notes: make notes on the content, read over for understanding, F = flashcards: bring notes to each lesson and add to them when in class so you can spend more time on asking questions and have your teacher answer them (furthers you understanding) then make flashcards on these notes for key definitions etc., T = test: in the form of practice questions and past papers (more year two but you can start these for AS a bit earlier on)

after you have done that, you mark the questions, read the mark scheme to see what you got wrong and note the key words/phrases which get you the marks in the papers and RETURN BACK TO F : go back to the flashcards and update them with the terminology that gets you the marks

important to start NFT as early as possible to allow for as much time as possible to grind practice questions

Hi @Myma08

Chemistry and biology are hard subjects so try not to worry about not doing as well in these tests as you had hoped.

The revision methods I used for these subjects were:

Making a mindmap per topic of all of the key information that you need to know, including diagrams and key words.

Making a glossary for the definitions for the key words. I used to use mark schemes to help ensure that I had all of the key phrases included in my definitions.

Watching videos to improve my understanding of any topic that I did not fully understand. This can be particularly helpful for watching practical experiments be done that you might not have had the opportunity to observe in person.

Answering lots of exam questions and then going through them carefully with the mark scheme. I found it helpful to answer topic specific questions and mixed topic questions.

Hope that helps!

I also did bad in my year 12 but found year 13 is easier😄 and i ended up with A's in both subjects. So dont give up you have over a year and a half to do it. Just always work hard, as although you just have two years they can shape the rest of your life and I believe you can do it.

Find some good resources aligned to your examboard, what do you do for Bio? AQA? OCR?

Aqa

Focus on the core content first - at the start of AQA it will mostly be biomolecules laying the foundations and cell structure, use SaveMyExams and STEMpathy - SaveMyExams will have a course specific revision guide, STEMpathy only has an OCR one but it's applicable to the early AQA topics and is more exam speak.

Then focus on your exam technique - command words, are your responses aligning to the intent or mark schemes? Do lots of past practice questions on Physics And Maths Tutor.
