Future Pathways of a Primary Education Student

As a current third year Primary Education student I am starting to really think about my next steps after graduating. Currently, my plan is to apply for jobs in primary schools as a teacher.

Some of the ways that uni has helped me to prepare for my future career:

My placement experiences have given me insight into what it is like to work in a school and what things I should be looking for when deciding what schools to apply to.

The intensity of my placements has gradually built up, from observing lessons to teaching 80% of the timetable by the end of my third-year placement.

Throughout the course, we have been given lots of advice about our future careers. We also have a few specific sessions in third year to help us to prepare for applying to jobs.

I decided that I wanted to be a teacher because I really enjoy working with children. My placement experiences have really increased my passion for teaching and reminded me all of the reasons why I want to go into this career. I enjoy getting to be creative when planning lessons and considering how I am going to ensure that all of the children in the class are able to become more confident in the new knowledge.

Whilst being a teacher is the obvious progression from the course, having a degree in Primary Education and Qualified Teacher Status can open the door for lots of careers. Some other jobs that I have considered are working in the kid’s club on a cruise ship, being a private tutor, and teaching English abroad.

I would also really recommend coming to an open day where you can learn more about the course and have the opportunity to ask staff and students about your career options. Click this link: https://bit.ly/4aHFLz5 to book onto our next open day!

Let me know if you have any questions!
