Personal Statement Urgent Help Super Curricular

Im a home student and I'm planning on applying to Universities in December. My personal statement draft isn't really standing out since I haven't participated in any competitions etc naturally since Im having to do everything from home and I'm not really aware of what options there are. I feel I'm kind of at a disadvantage and I was wondering whether I can do anything in these two months that I can add? Any online workshops/ competitions or anything really.
Im doing Maths, Physics and Psychology for my A Levels and I'm planning to go into biomedical engineering at Uni.
I would really appreciate any suggestions
Hello!

Don't stress, there's so many ways to stand out in a personal statement!

Student to student advice

We have a page on our website that has some Personal Statement tips and advice - there are video resources such as Nailing your Personal Statement as well as written top tips such as 'Make multiple drafts and get these checked by family, friends, peers and teachers. They may spot errors which you can easily overlook.'

What to do in these upcoming two months

In terms of what you can do between now and then to stand out, I'd really recommend our MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). Our MOOCs allow you to engage with uni-level study, explore a new subject area, or prepare for higher education. Completing certain MOOCs may even make you eligible for an alternative offer to study with us at York.

There's so many - have a look through and see if anything takes your fancy? You'll be able to complete them online and from home, and they'd make a great talking point for your personal statement if relevant.

Best of luck!

Hello @Scarlettt_77,

That’s great to hear you will be applying to university!

For my personal statement, I read a book about the subject I was applying to, and wrote about how it interests me. I also completed a MOOC, which T from York mentioned below. Even listening to a podcast would give you something to talk about, as long as you can relate it to why you’re interested in the subject!

Hope this helped and let me know if you have any more questions

Hi @Scarlettt_77. I would recommend including wider reading, current affairs happening in the world that link to your course of study in your personal statement., shows you have a passion for biomedical engineering.
