estrangement form

Where on SFE do you upload the confirmation of estrangement form?

Hi Whocaresyyyy,

When you login to your account, you need to click on the 'card' that shows your application for the relevant academic year. On the application page, you need to select ‘Upload supporting evidence’, under the ‘Manage your student finance’ heading on the right-hand side of the screen.

Thank you. Besides the form, do I need to add anything else at this stage?

Hi there,

You can provide any additional evidence to back up the estrangement. Once received. this form is currently taking 23 working days to be processed. Our timescales are estimates and can change daily up or down depending on how busy we are. If the team need anything else they will email you, it may go to your junk folder.

Thanks,
Claire

Thanks Claire. I was told to attach a personal statement of events by my university's estrangement team. How many words should this be? And once the form is processed as you say, will I know if I'm assessed as estranged or not or would there be further steps? If so, what are those?

Hi there,

There is not a specific amount of words. This letter should confirm the following;

Their relationship to the student & the length of time they have known the student.
Confirmation of the estrangement from both their parents (biological/adoptive) and when this occurred.
Current contact levels and if reconciliation is likely with both parents.
It is not a requirement for the letter to state the reason for the estrangement as the reasons may be sensitive and the student may not want this information disclosing.
It should be signed and dated.

If this is approved there would be no further steps.

Thanks, Drew

Hi Drew, thank you so much for getting back to me. By the letter, I meant the 'personal statement'. I was asked to upload a personal account of events onto my account by someone on the estrangement team at my university, essentially detailing everything in more depth for SFE, so this is aside from the estrangement form. Is this not needed? or would it be helpful?

Hi there,

Any evidence you send would be best to have a letter attached to confirm short explanation why you're sending the evidence along with your name and crn.

One received, this is currently taking 23 working days. The team will review this on a case by case basis and let you know if its been accepted or not.

Thanks,
Claire
