fine art at uni after my foundation course

My next steps are to probably go to uni to do fine art, so i’m just looking for peoples opinions on what the best uni’s there are for the course.Im getting a bit overwhelmed lol because there’s much choice.

Just wondered if there’s any talk on really good university’s for fine art or if anyone goes to a uni that they really recommend

I don’t mind in or outside or london but just hoping for recommendations to get me started

Hey @mya.4!

I studied Fine Art at Kingston University London and absolutely loved my time on the course. If you have any questions about studying Fine Art at Kingston, let me know and I'll answer them as soon as I can. 🙃

In terms of the best universities for Fine Art, it really comes down to personal preference. League tables can help give you a general idea - for example, Kingston Uni was Top 10 in the UK for Art & Design in The Complete University Guide 2026 - but they can't offer the full picture, as this depends on your individual wants and needs. Some students enjoy very hands-on teaching, whilst others prefer being given the time and space to work on their own artistic projects. The size of studio spaces and the quality/availability of workshops can also influence your opinion, as well as the accessibility of university support services. Try and make a list of what matters most to you to help narrow down your choices that bit further.

London has a wide selection of art schools - UAL, Slade (UCL), Goldsmiths, KSA - but there are also lots of other reputable art schools outside of London (AUB, Glasgow, Loughborough. Newcastle). Have you thought about where you'd like to study in terms of location? Each university will have a slightly different feel to it depending on where it's based. If you're not sure, try to attend a few Open Days of any universities you might be interested in and check out the local area of each uni.

Hope this helps,
Eve (Kingston Rep).

I can't recommend specifics, but I can say to make sure you read through course content and attend open days when you can! I'm in Illustration but I wasn't sure what my first choice Uni was until I had been to open days of both to get a feel of the campus and a proper description of the course content. Good luck choosing!

Probably worth first thinking about what media you might work in, and see which unis seem to have good support for those media in terms of tutors specialising in that, facilities available (e.g. if interested in sculpture, maybe see whether they have opportunities and facilities in glass and metal as well or something for example...?), and what the studio space allocation is like. It's probably useful to go to open days to see in person what the facilities and studio spaces are like and to understand if you get dedicated studio space for the whole degree or if you need to share space/"hotdesk" in the studios!

Also have a look at recent degree shows for those unis and see what the students are making there, as might give you a sense of what approaches and styles that uni tends towards in various media. This might help you get a sense of whether that's a good fit for your interests!

Hi there!
That's so exciting to hear that you're considering a creative course at Uni. I'm Charlotte, a third year Graphics Student here at Norwich University of the Arts.

One of my housemates does Fine Art and absolutely loves it. Her work is incredible and I've loved attending her exhibitions to see what she's been up to.

You can request a prospectus for free from our website here - it will provide you with course content and future career paths for after uni. We also have a few open days coming up if you're interested - would be a great way to see our facilities and talk to the current staff and students.

Alternatively, we have some Fine Art ambassadors over on the UniBuddy platform if you want to chat to any course specific ambassadors of ours - I hope that helps 🙂
