I was wondering if any former year 11s could pls give me advice and tips on what a good study routine looks like and any tips to prevent burn out; thanks!

Hey @𝕷𝖆𝖎𝖇𝖆,

Whilst studying consistently throughout the year is a good approach to take, the amount of time you dedicate to revision might differ depending on your commitments/priorities. When I was in Year 11, I usually revised for around one and a half to two hours every a night (albeit, I counted any homework I had to do within that time frame as well). Closer to mocks and final exams, it was probably closer to three hours and sometimes four/five on weekends.

I usually recommend focusing most on your weakest subjects - although they aren't fun to revise, they are the subjects that need the most revision! If you feel like you have a good grasp of a subject, dedicate less revision time to it. For example, I was a strong Chemistry student but a much weaker Biology student, so I would maybe spent an hour on Biology and only thirty minutes on Chemistry. Tailor your revision to your own strengths and weaknesses. 🙂

In terms of preventing burn out - take regular breaks, and make sure to give yourself days off from revision (especially for holidays/celebrations). Revising regularly is good, but not when it begins to take over your life; make sure to save time for hobbies or just chilling out.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your GCSEs!

Hi @𝕷𝖆𝖎𝖇𝖆

I would recommend making a revision timetable so that you have a clear plan of what you are going to revise everyday to ensure that you have plenty of time to revise everything by the end of the year.

When I was revising for my GCSEs, I scheduled a short amount of time everyday to complete any homework that I had been set. Then I would revise a topic for a couple of different subjects. I found that studying multiple subjects per day kept me more interested than studying one subject for a longer period of time.

It is really important to maintain balance by:

Giving yourself time to participate in hobbies.

Going to sleep at a good time (especially on a school night).

Give yourself breaks to relax and take part in self-care.

Spending time with your friends and family.

Hope that helps!

Sophie.
