Accidentally clicked “I have a criminal conviction” on my UCAS form — what can I do?

Hi everyone,

I’ve just realised that when I submitted my UCAS application, I accidentally ticked the box saying that I have a criminal conviction. I don’t have any convictions at all it was just a genuine mistake.

I contacted UCAS, but they said they can’t change it once the application is submitted and that I need to contact each university directly. My application includes medicine courses, and I’m really worried this will affect how they see my application or lead to an automatic rejection.

Has anyone been in a similar situation before?
Will universities understand it was an honest mistake if I explain?
Any advice on how to best word the email to the admissions teams?

Thanks in advance I’m quite stressed about this and would appreciate any help.

As above - don't worry, its a common mistake and all you need to do is email each of your Unis and tell them you did this by mistake.

Hiya!

Try not to stress too much, this can happen, and admissions teams are used to dealing with honest mistakes. You’ve done the right thing by checking in with UCAS first.

As everyone else has confirmed, just email each university’s admissions team so it’s officially in writing and they have a clear record on their system. Just explain that you accidentally ticked the wrong box and confirm that you don’t have any convictions. They’ll appreciate the clarification and the paper trail.
