Choosing between UEA and Newcastle for Pharmacy

Hi! I’m working on my uni applications and can’t decide between UEA and Newcastle for Pharmacy. I really like the idea of a green campus and a friendly community, but I also want to make sure the uni is respected academically. Would love to hear from anyone who’s studied at either uni (for any course really are there any special perks, unique features, or things that make your uni a great place to be? Thanks!

Hello! 🙂
I understand the feeling of having to choose between two universities, you aren't alone!
Have you visited both? If not I'd highly recommend you visit at open days because you get to see the campus for yourself!
Here's what I think makes UEA a special university;

Lots of green spaces. UEA's campus itself has a lake, lots of green spaces (you can even have barbeques here with friends!), is attached next to Earlham Park and we even have Eaton park just 10 minutes away. You mentioned you'd like green spaces and to be UEA has lots!

Change of scenery. As UEA is based Norwich, you have access to a whole range of different sceneries. There are beaches, broads, yet you're still close to cities like London. I personally really like this because it makes for great days out with friends.

Norwich itself. Norwich is a lovely city with many independent and unique shops/cafes. It's also super student friendly as most shops here have student discounts. The Norwich market is also a great place, they have something for everyone!

UEA staff. The staff at UEA are honestly so helpful and kind. As a Natural Sciences student who takes chemistry modules (the school for Pharmacy is 'Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology') I can assure you that your lecturers will be supportive throughout your time at UEA.

Research % academic excellence. UEA is well known for its cutting edge research. Just a short distance away is the Norwich Research Park which is a renowned institution for research across many different areas in science.

I hope this helps! If you have any more specific questions do let me know! 🙂
Good luck with your application!
Fatma.

Well the grades clearly check out and they are strong.

ive heard both schools are great for pharmacy but the rankings suggest newcastle edges it slightly.

Also UEA is very good in research which comes handy when doing pharmacy. both would be great choice just see how the teaching is and if it suits you.

but i know UEA greenery is amazing. good luck

It wont make any difference where you train. All MPharm courses are accredited by the GPhC, all follow the same set syllabus and all lead to exactly the same qualification. There is no 'academically better' course. The NHS will not care where you trained, and your future patients will never ask.

Pick the Uni where you will feel happiest
