ive been given a contextual offer when i thought i wasnt eligible

Hi everyone. Ive never posted on here before so bare with me.

I've applied for English at the University of York (and others) and received my offer yesterday - ABB. This surprised me as on their website their typical offer is stated to be AAA, and I dont fit the requirements for a contextual. However, today I received my offer letter from UoY stating I was given a contextual offer due to where I lived, but on their website's postcode checker it says mine is not eligible? I've emailed them asking for clarification, as I know this will stress me out until results day and York is my top choice. Can they change my offer to AAA? Or may there be some other reason I got the contextual offer, and they were just being vague when they said "As you live in an area of the UK with lower progression to university" ??? I dont know how vague that could possibly be, but anyways. I do go to a state school, but my area is not bad, and neither is the area where my sixth form is or my old secondary. I have lived in another country before and mentioned that in my personal statement but I doubt that would do it either. Has this happened to anyone else?

Suggest that you just phone or email York and check they have made you the right offer.

I mean if your area’s poor enough and there’s like little to no uni grads in that area I think they give those places more leniency, my town’s one of em
Worth checking with them but my understanding is once they make an offer under their contract with UCAS they can't change it without your permission unless there was fraudulent representation (which is clearly not the case here)...?

Hi straykidsfan,

Sorry if there has been any confusion over your offer. The Admissions team have been looking at your email from yesterday and have flagged it with the relevant teams. They have emailed you back today so hopefully you will see a response in your inbox 🙂

Please let us know, or you can email [email protected] if you have any other queries!

Good luck with everything!

J
