using the same personal statement for different courses

hi i have applied for diagnostic radiography with my personal statement which is my main choice. however i have also put operating department practice and biomedical science as back up options. will they still consider me as my personal statmemt is directly on radiography? also is it okay to apply to 3 different courses at the same uni? does it not make me look desperate

Before you submitted your application, you should have emailed the '3 courses' Uni and asked them if you can send two other PS directly to them. You have done it now so you can either email them and ask if that is still possible, or just accept whatever decisions they make.

Hiya lovely

First thing I'd say is to not stress over about this too much, lots of applicants apply for slightly different health-related courses, especially if they have overlapping interests. Admissions people understand that your personal statement might be geared toward your main choice.

If the other courses are in a similar field, the universities will usually take that into account.

And yes, it’s totally fine to apply to 3 different courses at the same uni! My course friend for example applied to 3 different chemistry basef courses at DMU as she wasnt sure which pne she prefered, it doesn’t make you look desperate, if anything it just shows you’re keeping your options open within related areas. Unis mostly assess each application on its own merits rather than judging the mix of courses you’ve picked.

You’ve done the sensible thing by having a clear main goal and some realistic backups 👍

It might be fine somewhere as uncompetitive as DMU - but many other Unis will not make offers to those who are clearly not 100% committed to that course or career, and would take a dim view of anyone applying to multiple courses at the same Uni.

Hey there, from a personal statement perspective, it’s actually very common for students to use one statement while applying to more than one course, especially when those courses sit in a similar area like health or science. Admission teams understand that UCAS only allows one statement, so they don’t expect it to be perfectly tailored to every single option.

What matters most is that your statement shows genuine interest in the field you’re applying to, your motivation, your experiences, and the skills you bring. Even if it’s mainly focused on diagnostic radiography, the themes you’ve talked about, such as patient care, teamwork, communication, and an interest in healthcare environments, will still make sense for operating department practice and biomedical science. It won’t make you look desperate and it won’t disadvantage you.

As long as your personal statement is honest and shows your enthusiasm for a career in health or science, it will still support all three choices well.
