did anyone get that - find how many solutions to the quintic equation

No, I got a quartic one that didn't have anything to do with finding the number of solutions… based on the posts I've seen, it seems like applicants are getting different questions

its a classic problem which came up in tmua 2016, the key is to try to draw the sketch by using the derivative (which they helpfully gave in the question) and by finding the co-ordinates of the stationary points. you first had to find the x coordinates of the stationary points (which are the roots of the derivative), then find the y values of those x coordinates by subbing them back into the equation to see whether they lie above or below the x axis. Then you can draw the sketch and count how many times it crosses the x axis

I ran out of time so badly (I had 16 flagged at the end that I was either unsure of or guessed). The start of the paper started off strong but it was just so time consuming for the number of marks per minute and the fact that there’s no working marks meant even if I was the majority of the way through the question but ran out of time it’s either all or 0 which is frustrating.

There are working marks apparently because the laminated sheet we wrote on gets sent off apprently ! My friend told me it was on that page before you start the test but I was not reading allat.

What??? I read all the information and I’ve also heard that they don’t look at your working. I only had one board so I was erasing it as I went along on nooo 😭.

I don’t think the boards get sent off because they are laminated for a reason - my centre kind of ran out of boards so the board I got was wet, which means they have just erased one from someone else who asked for a new board. Also, if they’re going to read your messy sheets, wouldn’t it be easier if they did it not in all MCQ format and just gave us a paper like before and tell us to write neatly?

Its fine, think about it, the boards a laminated and they rub it down after the exam hence why mine was slightly wet. They didn't even make you write your name on the board so how do they know who's is who's? Also, I did read through the pages at the start (trying to delay starting) there wasn't anything on there about it, it was just a privacy information and a tutorial on how to use the thing.

prolly like mid nov if you're lucky, normally end of nov and if you're unlucky prolly a week before interviews (so like start of dec) but did you receive an email from college asking you for preferred interview dates? (not invitation)
