Any tips for my accounting/finance personal statement?

I'm planning to apply for accounting and finance courses but I'm not sure how to answer the UCAS personal statement questions for 2026 entry. What specific experiences or skills are best to mention for this subject? 😊

Hey @Josemon.K

That’s a great choice of subject.

For 2026 entry, UCAS has introduced a new format with three structured questions, which makes it easier to focus your answers. Here’s some tailored advice for Accounting and Finance:
Question 1: Why do you want to study this course or subject?

Share what sparked your interest maybe a podcast, a documentary, or even a personal experience like managing a budget or helping with a family business.

Be specific: instead of saying “I enjoy maths,” explain why perhaps you love solving problems or understanding how financial systems work.

Mention any career aspirations and how this course will help you get there.
Question 2: How have your qualifications and studies helped you prepare?

Talk about subjects like maths, business studies, or economics and how they’ve developed your analytical or numerical skills.

Highlight any relevant projects or coursework for example, analysing a company’s financial performance or creating a business plan.

Question 3: What else have you done to prepare outside of education, and why are these experiences useful?

Mention any super-curricular activities like online finance courses, reading financial news, or attending university taster days. Check out our finance & accounting subject spotlight on Springpod.

Include work experience or part-time jobs even if not directly related, they can show transferable skills like attention to detail, teamwork, or time management.

If you’ve taken part in competitions or helped with budgeting in a club/society or household, that’s great to include too!

You can find more detailed guidance and examples on the UCAS website here.

I hope that helps. 😊
