My Concern for University

Hi,
I want to study in Southampton University, but I kinda messed up my gcse by getting grade 5 in higher maths, but I have so many certificates to show the interest in software engineering (about 20 from coursera), plus I did Maths for computer science with London University cert and Maths with machine learning with Imperial University, which covers discrete maths, calculus, proofs and lots more! Plus my predicted grade is Distinction star in Digital Software Development T Level
I want to ask whether the uni take my application in case by case scenario or not?

What course are you looking at? You should be fine as long as the GCSE entry requirements are a 4 or 5 maths. If you are worried the best thing you can probably do is contact the university yourself and explain your situation.

Hi @IDEA_SILVER,

It seems you have achieved an imperssive amount, well done! Like @flowersinmyhair said, it would depend on the course you want to study. For a subject such as computer science or software engineering, for example, due the content of the course, we have a non-negotiable of A-Level maths so GCSE grades simply need to be passed (grade 4 or above). The only time, I believe, that we ask for more than a 5 in GCSE maths is when the A-Level is not a requirement, but the course has some mathematical elements (e.g. Accounting and Finance). As you are doing a T-Level, I would recommend contacting our enquires team at [email protected], who can provide more information about what T-Levels we accept and specific requirements of them. The additional courses you did would be excellent to include in your application none-the-less (whether in the education section or mentioned as part of your personal statement) as they show your passion for the subject.

I wish you all the best for your application

I know Moocs are not qualifications but it shows the maths readiness that is required

I am looking at BEng Software Engineering, I saw in my college's website that a girl goes to Russell group uni, so I thought to try out 😊 and try my BEST

Having had a look at Southampton's website for BEng Software Engineering it says this:
"Applicants must hold GCSE English language (or GCSE English) (minimum grade 4/C) and mathematics (minimum grade 4/C)"
