I want to go to the University of Exeter for law but I'm paranoid

Hello!
I am an arab BTEC student who gained an offer from the University of Exeter for law. However, as of recently, I've became paranoid of the future, as i am unsure if the university will provide to me a safe environment as an arab, and if it would help me in having a career in law.

To former/current exeter students, can i have your opinions on its safety and education?

What do you mean by a "a safe environment as an arab" - and why do you think Exeter in particular wont provide this. And, where else have you applied?

Hi Anonymous,

I’m a current Exeter student, so I can definitely give you a bit of reassurance!

Exeter is a really safe and welcoming place overall - it’s a smaller, student-focused city, and the campus community is friendly and diverse. There’s a strong international student presence, including students from across the Middle East and North Africa, and plenty of cultural and faith-based societies like the Arab Society, Islamic Society (ISoc), and Middle Eastern & North African Society. These groups are super active and really supportive - they organise events, socials, and cultural celebrations, which make it easy to meet people and feel at home.

In terms of safety, the city itself is very calm and secure compared to bigger cities. The university also has a great support network, including wellbeing teams, a multi-faith chaplaincy, and dedicated support for international students if you ever need anything.

As for your career in law, Exeter’s Law School is highly respected and offers great employability support. There are loads of opportunities for things like mooting, pro bono work, and networking with law firms - plus career advisors who can help you with UK legal pathways or international routes if you plan to qualify elsewhere.

So overall, Exeter is a great place to study - safe, supportive, and academically strong. You’d definitely find a community here where you feel comfortable and encouraged to succeed.

Hope that helps and please reach out if you have more specific worries 🙂

May I ask about the entry requirements at Exeter Law School?

Does it need the LNAT?

I'm an international IB student with 43 predicted grades and 7 7 7 in HLs.

Exeter did have a notorious racism problem about 6 or 7 years ago but I cannot find anything more recent online. That doesnt mean it isn't there still - Exeter does tend to attract white students, some with a firm sense of their own entitlement - if you go to any Open Day or similar event, it would be a question to ask non-white students.

Entry requirements are here: https://www.exeter.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/law/law/#entry-requirements

According to https://law.exeter.ac.uk/study/faqs/ Exeter does not require the LNAT.

Sorry you are so wrong - they expelled the racists - other unis don't!

It's far more inclusive than Bristol or Durham or many others. I regard your post as scaremongering in the extreme.

OP do not be put off by someone working at a rival university!

You can assume this if you want to - but actually I don't.

Im sorry for the late response, but the reason why i thought this is mostly due to paranoia from some past reviews i've seen for the school. Though, i feel less paranoid now, and realised the reviews are from years ago.

Thank you very much! I can't say how grateful i am for the reassurance, as my paranoia has been consuming me as of lately, but now I think I'll be more confident in attending the University of Exeter for the future.

I hope you have a wonderful Day!
