Student Finance Help SAAS vs SFE

Hi,
I have recently moved to Scotland in Aug 2025 for the Graduate Entry Medicine course. My address is now permanently in Scotland and I am a UK national. I have been resident in England for the last ten years but have now fully moved to Scotland.

I have no alternate address to use in England as my family does not live here.

When I tried to apply for funding with SFE, it directed me to the SAAS website. However my application for tuition fees with SAAS has been rejected as I have not lived there long enough to count as a resident.

I am really struggling to know what to do next as I am confused about who I should be contacting. The two bodies keep directing me to one another and no one seems to be able to help me.
Any advice would be really useful.

Hi there, under Student Finance England residency criteria you would need to be ordinarily resident in England on the 1st day of the 1st academic year of the course to be eligible to apply for SFE support.

As you have now permanently moved to Scotland, you would need to meet the SAAS residency eligibility for support from themselves, we would be unable to advise of their residency criteria however. Stephen

Hi Stephen,
Do you have any sort of contact to be able to talk to someone about this? It seems there’s no centralised method for the two departments to talk to each other and I keep being sent between them.

Hi there, unfortunately there would be nothing we can do via the social media portals, as we do not have account access, but assist with general enquiries only. Stephen

Sorry to clarify: are you able to provide a phone number or email address so that I can speak to someone?
