At what age do people get the desire to have sex?

I'm thinking, if I had a child, at what age could I assume they're interested in having sex with someone, thus I could be open to talk about this topic?
I know for myself, as a boy, I was 13 when my desire to kiss girls changed and went beyond that. It became hard to not even fantasise about sex. I assume most guys are similar?

There is unlikely to be a point where a switch is flicked and the desire to have sex just floods in. Attraction and desire is something that will develop over time, though puberty is broadly speaking going to be the point at which those hormones really start doing their thing. However, conversations that you have with your children around sex can and should start a lot earlier than that. Not talking about actual sex, obviously, but conversations around things like consent, body autonomy and so on can be had in an age appropriate manner with pretty young children. So from a parenting perspective, I'd very much be suggesting that you start on certain themes from a pretty young age, and to build them up as your children get older. Going from a standing start to sex when they're teenagers is likely to be an awful lot more awkward that it needs to be, and those conversations are likely to be much more effective if you've been having them all along, rather than talking about them for the first time at that point.

started at about 13 when I read about my Aunts magzsine about the female body... until then I heard things through friends at school (and a male cousin who would ask things about my body)
