Group Project Tips

Hi everyone,

As many of you are starting to get well into your uni projects, I thought I would give some tips for the sometimes dreaded group projects. I have to admit in my first year of university I wasn’t the biggest fan of group projects and it was quite a worry knowing it could affect my grades. However in my second year I had some really amazing and successful group projects and now really enjoy working as a team and bouncing ideas off each other. So I thought I would share what I learnt about those positive experiences as to what makes a successful group project.

- Listen and give everyone a chance - It is so important that everyone gets a chance to share their ideas and feel heard. It just generally creates more respect for each other and better more developed ideas.

- Play into each other strengths Take time to each talk about your strengths or particular aspects of projects you like to work on so you can delegate tasks that best suit each other. This not only makes a better project but makes it more enjoyable.

- Group meetings It can be quite time consuming but I think it is definitely worth having regular in person group meetings if you can. This helps you connect as a team and work on ideas.

- Play your part Everyone’s part in a group project is very important. If everyone does the best they can in their part it will make for a really good group project. It is also stands you in good stead as people will want to work with you in the future and recommend you to others.

I hope this is helpful and please feel free to add more tips below!

Good luck on all your group projects 😊

Hey,

This is a great post from @Kingston Grace.

I thought I would share some other tips for group projects at University as I completed one in my 2nd year.

My first tip is to create a Group chat for the project, make sure everyone is added into the chat. The chat is a good way to share any ideas and as well as communicating with each other and updating the group on any progress or even just asking general questions.

My next tip is to Clearly Allocate Roles e.g. who is completing what, my project was split into sections that we needed to do for our assessment to be complete, so we allocated different sections to members of the team. I would recommend allocating roles at the start of the project, if any changes are made then make sure everyone is updated.

Another tip is to be aware of the DEADLINE! Make sure the whole group knows this date.

My final tip is to Manage Your Time well, make sure everything is complete in good time and you are not rushing around to complete something or leaving it to the day before it is due in.

Hope this is also helpful, I would also take on the points from the post above for any group project.

Good luck!
Jack

Keep a log of everything - meetings, decisions, roles, responsibilities, deliverables etc.
