Pharmacy is an allied healthcare profession to train students to become dispensing pharmacists.

Pharmacology is a science degree that studies the biomolecular basis of drug interactions on (typically human) physiology.

You can do with a pharmacology degree what you could do with e.g. a biomedical science, biochemistry, genetics, biological sciences, microbiology etc degree.

You cannot become a pharmacist with a pharmacology degree.

Hi Ana2920!

Firstly, Congratulations on your offer!!! 🎉

If you have any questions about the course, you are welcome to use this form and we will be happy to answer these for you.

There have been many positive reviews on Student Crowd from students at University of Nottingham. It has a pretty setting, but is just 20 minutes tram or bus journey to the city centre. There are lots of clubs and societies so if you have interests, it is most likely you will find there is something for you and there is a lovely Sports Centre. There are 3 main campuses and there is a shuttle bus linking these. Generally speaking, you could make your University experience what you want it to be, you could be as busy or as quiet as you choose.

I hope this helps 🙂

Hi Ana2920!

This is a respected degree. The skills you gain from the course can lead to roles working in drug discovery, medicines regulation, medical affairs, drug formulation, manufacturing, patenting and licencing and analytical testing. As you will study elements of chemistry, biosciences and pharmaceutics, it means you will be able to explore jobs in any of these areas.

Nottingham university is in a pretty setting surrounded by nature. It is close to the city (20 minutes on the tram or bus) and there are lots of clubs and societies.

I hope this helps 🙂

As a pharmacy student, I feel compelled to make a small tweak in your first sentence. While pharmacists can most certainly dispense medications, this role is now shifting to be predominantly of the pharmacy technicians, to allow pharmacists more time consulting patients and practice diagnosing, prescribing and treating minor ailments. This is thanks not only to the new pharmacy first scheme, but now the integrated prescribing within the degree, instead of needing a separate course to gain this skill.

I would encourage you to research this field deeper, as it is so important we provide the most accurate and up to date information for prospective students, to allow them to make the best decisions possible
