Pharm work exp

How bad is it if I don’t manage to get any pharmacy work experience? I can’t find anywhere that would accept under 18 and I’m currently writing my personal statement
(I was originally interested in another course but I switched hence some gaps)

You don't need work experience - a day or two of shadowing experience would be sufficient to show that you understand the role of a pharmacist. You should find that hospitals and pharmacies are much more likely to agree to this rather than longer periods of work experience. You still have time to secure this before the January submission deadline.

In your PS you should also reflect on any public-facing work/volunteering experience you have in any field (retail, hospitality, entertainment, healthcare, etc.). Consider what you have learnt from this experience in relation to the NHS values.

Hey! It's not the end of the world if you don't manage to get pharmacy work experience. Universities know it can be hard to get placements, what is important is showing that you understand the role of a pharmacist and have relevant skills. You can highlight customer service experience, teamwork, communication, attention to detail.

You can do virtual - not quite the same but it shows willing. Allied Health Professionals do live streamed MTD days and pharmacy is covered as part of it.

Hi,

You don’t need pharmacy-specific experience, as admissions tutors understand that not everyone can get placements.

If you do want some experience to get a feel for the role, I’d recommend looking at local independent pharmacies, as they tend to be more flexible.

You can also highlight transferable skills like teamwork, communication, and attention to detail, or any volunteering or other work you’ve done. Mentioning relevant reading, research, online courses or other extra-curricular activities is another great way to show your interest in pharmacy.

Hope this helps,
