Newham Collegiate Sixth Form (NCS) personal statement

hi, i am planning on applying to LAE, NCS and Harris Westminister and Coloma Convent Sixth form

however im worried that because im situated in SW London, that'll impact my chances of getting accepted into HW, LAE and NCS

i havent done my mocks yet (theyre soon though) but my grades right now are:
IT - D*
geography - 9
spanish - 9
biology - 9
maths - 8
literature - 8
chemistry - 8
physics - 7
language - 7
business - 7

but i know you have to do a personal statement for NCS and ik theres a guide on their website but i still feel unsure of how to structure it or how to write it

id appreciate if someone who is in NCS and or anyone who has done their personal statement could answer these few questions:

1. when should i start writing/drafting it?
2. does it hold a lot of weight for ur application?
3. how long does it normally take to finalize?
4. your experience writing it
5. any general tips

i know there are two parts of it
the main one where you talk about why the subjects and why this school
5. should using big words be something i should focus on?
6. how should this be structured (as in should it have narrative aspects to it?)
7. how can i start it?
8. should i be using things like similes or metaphors?
9. you have to research about the school, so how in depth should the research be and is there any other research you could do that isn't mentioned on their guide and should that take up a small part of the statement?

the second one where you talk about extracurriculars
10. if i dont have much hobbies and extracurricular activities does this affect the personal statement?
11. how formal should the hobbies and extracurricular activities be, can it be something as simple as art, sewing, cooking, crafts, morning runs etc
12. here, should i talk about how those hobbies/ extracurriculars have shaped me and taught me different things?
13. can i mention religion?
14. what are some things you have talked about for ur hobbies / extracurriculars

Hiii I'm planning on applying to LAE and NCS too!
Since I'm applying this year, I'm also unsure about the 800 word essay, but I briefly spoke to a current year 13 at NCS. She said she drafted and edited it over a few days, but they were given ample time to write it.

I think the answers to q5 and 8 depend on your quality of writing. You should attempt to write eloquently ofc, but not need to write a whole English language essay. I'm pretty sure the content of the personal statement should be the main focus, since they hold value over the delivery of it.

Hi, I got an offer to enrol at NCS last year, and in all honesty the personal statement doesn't really hold that much weight. If your personal statement is exceptionally good or poor then they'll take note of it, but if you follow the basic guide they give on the website and don't use AI to make it for you then you'll be fine, at the end of the day your grades are the be all end all of your application, much like most other sixth forms
