Question regarding academic reference

I will be applying to universities for 2026 while currently attending my 1st year somewhere else. One of my 5 uni choices considers 2nd year transfers. However, they asked me to only get my reference from my current place of studies aka my current uni. I have an academic advisor in my uni but I barely know him so how will I be able to get a good reference? Also, can I use more than 1 academic reference on ucas? Wouldnt it be better to provide a reference from my old sixth form for the rest of my uni choices?

You're only allowed one reference in your UCAS form. Your other options are also very likely to want a reference from your current university instead of your sixth form, sadly.

Have you met your academic advisor? It would be wise to build at least some rapport with them, and wait until the semester is over so you have submitted some university submissions that your academic advisor might be able to draw from in their reference. In any case I wouldn't worry too much about your reference, there are other parts of your application that are more important.

So that means I wont need anything from my sixth form then. I have actually met with him and we’ve had a few talks together, so hopefully he will be fine with the whole transferring idea. Would you recommend sending my application around December time then?

Sending it in December is reasonable, but as long as you send it before the 14th of January, you're fine

Thanks for your help. I spoke with my advisor and he agreed to do it for me after discussing the situation. After putting down my referee details on my application, I noticed that I have to write down a phone number. Do you know whether this must be the referee's phone number or the university's one?

For my recent UCAS application, my reference did not give me with a phone number so I provided the university's phone number.

If i give the university's phone number, do I have to let them know as well about the situation?

Just letting your advisor know will be fine. Highly unlikely they'll actually ring the phone number anyway, they're only going to be emailing your reference.
