Email from Cambridge

I’ve just received an email from Cambridge regarding my UCAS application, saying that I won’t be accepted if I don’t complete this online form thing before the 22nd of October, it’s obviously now the 25th. I had literally no idea about this, and it seems a bit harsh to completely reject someone’s offer over it especially when it’s clearly not very well known. Has anyone else had this issue?

try to complete it today - i've heard of someone being let off with it (i assume you're talking about the my cambridge application) being a day late. it is very important that you complete it as it involves things like interview arrangements, and obviously they can't offer you a place if you don't make yourself available for your interview, should you be offered one. it shouldn't take you too long so get it done as fast as you can

it'll depend on your college but hopefully if you send them an apologetic email it'll be okay! hope it all goes alright for you

Yeah… update guys - my application has been cancelled/ rejected all together. Really pathetic on their part tbh as it was in my junk folder and I had no idea it existed so didn’t know to look out for an email from them. I rlly changed my attitude to even wanting to go there from this anyway, the email I received telling me my application had been rejected was rude, and they gave me zero chance to give them the reasoning behind why I missed the deadline by literally 2-3 days.

It's your responsibility to check your junk folder and to be aware of the application process.

MOST don’t know a thing about MyCambridgeApplication until they’re sent the email for it, the email that got sent to my junk folder. Not once would anyone consider that they’d be required to do a second application where 90% of the answers had already been provided on the actual UCAS application. I was getting Cambridge emails in my main inbox on different things, so I had no reason to check the junk folder because I’d added the email address to my safe list, I have zero idea how that one email ended up in my junk folder. My junk folder is filled with scams and adverts and confirmation codes, I’ve never received anything important on there and will only check it when I’m expecting a certain thing to come through and it explicitly doesn’t end up in my main inbox - like I said, applicants usually don’t know the MyCambridgeApplication exists until they’re sent it. I’ve been dealt the rubbish fate that for some reason it decided to make its way into my junk folder. The only reason I saw it was because I was sat looking for a two step verification code from something I was logging into. This app is designed for constructive advice, if you haven’t got anything useful to say I suggest you move on instead of giving me condescending advice. Have a nice day 😜👌

Most??? If that were the case then the Cambridge forum would be flooded with comments and complaints, wouldn't it? But it's not.

I’m sorry that happened too. You still have so many choices, don’t lose heart.

I cant lie, the mycapp is a massive part of the process and i genuinely don't understand how you wouldn't have been aware of it before submitting your ucas. Cambridge and your chosen college will have sent many emails with the information, which i know because i have also just applied to cambridge. It really is unfortunate that you missed it but cambridge is so highly competitive that they have no reasons to be lenient about anything, 99% of cam applicants will have done the research necessary to know the mycapp exists like i did months in advance - so it isn't actually rude for them to not give you a second chance but actually quite reasonable

Yes, for most people they do not know the second application process is a thing until they receive an email from it - of course that wouldn’t lead to anyone usually being annoyed because typically this would appear in their inbox and it doesn’t cause any inconvenience for them, however like I said mine got stuck in a junk folder that is so flooded with spam emails that I don’t ever find anything in there unless I scour it, which I just so happened to be because I was waiting for an email from someone else, to which I then unfortunately stumbled across their email. I don’t feel the need to explain myself over and over to you when you’re clearly looking to judge and give completely useless comments, I’ll remind you that most people on this app are going through insane amounts of stress applying to university’s, going through university, and doing exams - they don’t need your condescending reply’s. Cheers 👍

Thanks so much, I really was preferring Durham as my first option anyway as it’s closer to home. Still really disheartening to literally not even have my application considered by Cambridge when I’ve been working myself to the ground to follow all of their requirements and preferences for applicants. It’s so nice to see some kind comments in this thread though

From who I’ve spoken to, they also didn’t know it existed either till they received it in their inbox, which of course didn’t happen to me as I got it in junk. 100% if it had appeared in my inbox like every other email from them has (weird ik) I’d have seen it within a day and completed it right there and then. I honestly have no idea if the sent me multiple, I only saw the one because my junk folder is so full of spam emails, the only reason I saw it was because I was waiting and scouring it for an email for something off someone else, if I’d have known the second application had existed or had even the slightest hint that it did, I’d have been on it and checking the junk folder every day. I go to a college that usually has literally zero people who even think about applying to Cambridge or Oxford, so I’ve had little to no support when applying and it’s been pretty overwhelming with all these curveballs that have been thrown at me, especially when I’m a young carer, it’s been a lonely process tbh. My tutors didn’t even know it was a thing either, when I told them they thought it was a bit crazy to ask all those things when most of it’s provided on the UCAS form besides the interview availability part. It’s good you’re on top of this stuff, I hope you do well with your Cambridge application (unlike me lol), I think I’ve found comfort in the fact that I’ve been leaning toward Durham university anyway, hopefully I do okay on my application there 🤞

Thanks ☹️ I’m really exited about my other four choices though! I have been leaning toward Durham as my first option anyway as it’s way closer to home and looks beautiful! I was actually quite reluctant about Cambridge - I got a sinking feeling as soon as I submitted my application that it was a mistake for an option when there’s other universities closer to home and when I say home I mean my dog lol. Hopefully I do well on my application to Durham🤞
