Alopecia

Please keep anon, becuase well, I have never spoke about it before and don't want anyone I know to see!

I'm just wondering if anyone on here had alopecia? I have never met anyone with it exept me. I have had it around 3 years. Sucks.
I dont, mum does though.
I know a girl which had this she has chronic stress related problems got up one day and her hair started falling out, as you can imagine it her her quite badly as im sure it would anyone! Sad thing as you are painfully aware of is that nothing can be done! My friend learnt to live with it and grandually accepted atm etc, i feel for anyone with this i can say, its not nice :frown:
I haven't but my Mum had it scarred alopecia really badly on her head. She had a tissue expander put in to stretch her scalp, then had the scar cut out so now has no patch! I also know a girl my age with it, and my Dad's friend has it too.
It can't be nice for you :frown: Are you a male or female?

hey,

My brother has it/had it, but he has after seeing about a million doctors found that if he stays away from everything that contains flour and dairy products his hair comes back. He has been on this diet for two years, and has gone from no hair to having all his hair back. There is a theory about how alopecia is a reaction to things your body wants to reject such as gluten, dairy products etc..and at the same time it attacks the hairs.. please pm me if you have any questions:smile:

That's really interesting. But mines full, I have no body hair what so ever, so I'm not sure if anything like that will work. I may look into it though. Thanks.

My cousin has it very severly. I think for her it's a hormone related thing as the problem started during her teens, she didn't have a great deal of hair but could cover it up with different styles so you would just think she had thin hair. Then after her second child was born all of her hair fell out, head hair and body hair, so that she didn't even have eyelashes. It's been a few years since her second child was born (she's in her 30s now) and her eyebrows and eyelashes have grown back but she still has to wear wigs (which look very natural btw). Who knows if it'll all grow back... time will tell. Chin up though OP  x
I am female and have it. Like you I have alopecia universalis - no body hair at all. I have had it since I was 2 and a half, the doctors blamed it on stress but how stressed can a 2 year old be? It has never grown again and the doctors have tried everything. I am currently 18 and at university, only my housemates for next year know about it as I was bullied when I was younger. I am scared to have relationships as my last bf broke up with me because of it but you may like to know that 1 in 20 people have some form of alopecia and I know how you feel wanting to be anonymous. Do you wear a wig??
im a guy, 16 and i have alopecia, and have just learned how to spell it
i would say severely, but hey,
my friends from school know, but now im at college, no1 can tell, although i imagine a few guess
wahey for hats
interesting about the whole gluten thing, ill give it a go

Sorry this was ages ago! I never replied as I didn't sub to thread! :p: Yeah I have a wig :s. It was like £3000 litrally. The free NHS ones looked horrible and I felt discusting. This one stays on by like suction kindof so it will never acidentally fall off and looks as real as it ever can I guess. I'm sorry you got bullied :frown: I got mine about 15 years old and only 1 person would be a dick about it but everyone else didn't mention it and I got on as normal which I think helped me to not fuss about it. I don't think I could have coped if I got bullied, I teared up once when my doctor commented on my wig. :o:

I don't have this condition, but I am starting to go bald... my hair is thinning out rather a lot at the front. If I'm anything like my grandfather, I'll be bald by the time i'm 30.

At the end of the day, it's only hair. If anyone feels the need to take the piss, they aren't the sort of person you need in your life anyway.

To the girl who's bf broke up with her because of it... he was and is a cock. A real man would accept you for who you are.
