Contextual Offers

Hi, I am predicted ABB in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. I am planning to apply for MPharm fora few russell groups hopefully. I am eligible for contextual offers for Liverpool, Bath, UCL, Newcastle and Sheffield. I am not planning to apply to all of them but just maybe 2 as my grades are quite low. However, although I’ve received emails and confirmation on websites that I could get a contextual offer from just my postcode and going to a state school, is it fully guaranteed that I will receive a contextual offer considering my grades are just 1 below the entry requirements for each schools. Should I put my hopes up or not?

Some unis might have limits of contextual offers so there is probably no guarantee even if one meets all the conditions.

If you are just 1 grade below the published requirements, you have very high chance of getting offers except from UCL. UCL and other London RG unis are heavily oversubscribed. Good luck.

They don't.

UCL is ludicrously competitive for all courses - not because its 'better' (it isn't), but because of the supposed glamour of being of being in London. Be prepared for a No even if you meet the Contextual criteria/grades. In contrast, Bath usually interviews everyone whom meets their entry grades (standard or contextual). Remember that it doesn't matter where you do an MPharm - all courses are accredited as equal, all have the same set-syllabus, and all lead to the same qualification, so there is no 'better course'.

Hi @user273838,

Those are some great options!

Firstly, make sure you are putting at least one "safe" option. This should be below your predicted grades. The other two-three should be based on your predicted grades. Then 1-2 can be aspirational. As the other commenter stated, for some unis, even if you meet their contextual offers they may not accept you.

You're not getting your hopes up, but I would recommend have at least one safety option that is not based on contextual offers, but based on their regular entry requirements.

Your grades are excellent so I'm sure you will be perfectly fine!

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,

Hello!

The above responses are really helpful, so I won’t repeat them. I just wanted to say that your grades are great, so stay confident!

In regards to MPharm, I don’t have direct experience with the course itself, but in my experience, the University of Sheffield as a whole has been really supportive and welcoming. I’m happy to answer any questions about Sheffield if it would be useful while you’re thinking about your options this could be about the city, university, accommodation, or student life in general.

Whatever university you pick will be great! Good luck ☺️
