I've just attended the open days for both Strathclyde and Heriot-Watt, and I'm unsure which I'd prefer to go to.
I'm applying for a Computing Science BSc, and I'm interested in using my studies towards healthcare in some form (e.g. bioinformatics, cheminformatics). I absolutely love the research facilities available at Heriot-Watt in terms of their robotarium and the grid. I love their focus and support around prioritising a curriculum that supports you getting into a career, too. However, I'm not a sporty person & their existing societies do not appeal to my interests. I already live pretty close to Edinburgh and wasn't looking to continue my education nearby.
Strathclyde had some really fun students to talk to, as well as some societies which appealed to me (e.g. their (musical) theatre, and other social clubs). I like that it's based in a new city and would have a lot of new places to explore. Their facilities also seemed great, and their professors sounded fun - but I don't know if there would be as much opportunity for me to explore researching computing science in a healthcare scenario.
I didn't get the chance to speak to any students from Heriot-Watt to know about what class numbers are like, either. Strathclyde seemed to have a manageable number of students, and made me feel like I wouldn't be one face in a massive crowd in a lecture theatre.
Any help/advice, or further questions in order to do so, would be greatly appreciated!
