Best third A-level for Mechanical Engineering?

Hi! I’m planning to take Maths and Design Technology for A-levels as I want to do Mechanical Engineering at uni. What would be a good (maybe easier) third subject, and do unis always require Physics? 😊

Depends on what universities you want to go to. Best you can do is have a look at the websites for the Universities you want to study at and see if physics is required. I'm planning to do Mech engineering as well but I don't know what to advise for a third subject, it really depends on what you are interested in / what your school offers or what the universities you want to go to requires.

Further maths or physics. I don't know if I'd call either easier than maths.

Hey! 😊

That’s great that you’re already thinking ahead about Mechanical Engineering! Whether Physics is required really depends on the university, some list it as essential, while others might be a bit more flexible if you have strong grades in Maths and Design Technology.

My best advice would be to start checking university websites now so you can see what each one asks for. That way, you’ll be well prepared and won’t run into any surprises when it’s time to apply.

I’m currently studying Engineering at City St George’s, University of London, so if you have any questions about the course or uni life, feel free to ask! Good luck!

As other's have said. Check entry requirements for uni's you want to apply for.

But a lot of the top uni's for mech eng require physics (or at least another stem subject in addition to maths).
Plus you'll be doing quite a lot of physics in mechanical engineering degree.
