where to study music performance at Uni?

Hi, I'm looking to study music performance in a year or so and I'm really struggling to choose a place. My top choice at the moment is Waterbear and I've been for an open day but I wasn't 100% sold on it. I don't want to go somewhere very academic which is my main concern. I would also like to be able to have singing lessons while studying and it's better if it's included in the course, Waterbear doesn't seem to have this. I'm more interested in alternative music and would like to go somewhere where many alternative people study too.

Is voice your first instrument? As far as I am aware to get vocal lessons you have to be enrolled on the course with vocals as your main instrument.

I know a young person currently at Waterbear and I am pretty impressed with them from what I have seen. Certainly more so than other places such as BIMM.

Leeds Conservatoire would be another option, it is still pretty practical but there are some academic elements including you needing a knowledge of music theory. At Lcon you get 1:1 lessons on your first instrument as part of the course.

At both places there are a lot of "alternative" types.
