Biology

See how things connect in your mind.

Actively remember what you learn.

Pay attention to important terms.

Practice drawing diagrams.

Chemistry

Get it, do not just memorize it.

Do lots of chemistry problems.

Create equation flashcards.

Relate experiments to what you know.

Maths

Practice makes perfect.

Learn when you mess up.

Make sure you understand the easy stuff.

Look at the grading guides.

Ciao from Italy,
Sandro

Hi there!

I hope you are doing well 🙂 When I studied Maths A Level, the revision tip that helped me the most was doing a lot of practice questions. I did a lot of practice papers leading up to the exam and was essentially learning and understanding the mark scheme!

Mind maps as well were super helpful to make sure that I understood the core concepts (with lots of different colours!).

Hope this helps

Hi there! @Cln idk
It’s great to see you getting organised early that’s one of the best things you can do in Year 12! I’m a student ambassador at the University of Nottingham, and I did Biology and Chemistry at A level too, so here are a few tips that really helped me:
Biology
There’s a lot of content, so the key is to understand processes rather than just memorising facts. Try using active recall cover your notes and test yourself on keywords and definitions. Making mind maps or flowcharts for processes like respiration or photosynthesis also helps you visualise how everything links together.

Chemistry
Chemistry can feel tricky at first, but it gets easier once you’re confident with the basics (like moles, bonding, and equations). Do lots of practice questions, especially calculations the more you do, the more patterns you’ll recognise. For organic chemistry, try summarising mechanisms on one page and highlighting conditions and reagents.

Maths
The best way to revise Maths is consistent practice. Instead of long revision sessions, do a few questions every day it keeps your skills sharp. When you make mistakes, note them down in a mistake book so you can revisit them later. And make sure you understand why each method works, not just how to do it.

General study tips

Use active recall and spaced repetition (apps like Anki or Quizlet are great).

Try the Pomodoro technique 25 minutes of focused work, 5-minute breaks.

Start past paper questions early, even if you haven’t finished the topic.

And don’t forget to rest! A-levels are a marathon, not a sprint.

It’s brilliant that you’re already planning ahead in Year 12 that mindset will make Year 13 so much easier. Best of luck with your studies!

Hi there!

I did not do Biology or Maths and so I cannot comment on these except give the general advice that keeping full, up to date notes, making revision resources as you go, and making sure you ask plenty of questions in class if you are unclear on anything are all good calls.

For Chemistry, this is going to sound a bit daft, but print out an a4 colour coded periodic table. I had a beautiful rainbow periodic table which I used to draw on, label and use for reference when looking at things like electronegativities, electron affinities, groupings, reactivities, and trying to remember which colours the flames are. You'll be surprised by how much you can work out if its laid out in front of you and it helped me a lot.

Hope this adds, best of luck 🙂
