Educational psychology Doctorate - what route should I do

Hi everyone,

I’ve got a BSc Psychology (BPS accredited) and I’m currently doing a teaching year to get my QTS and PGCE.

But I’m starting to wonder is this actually the best route if I want to get onto the Educational Psychology doctorate? Or would it make more sense to quit teaching and focus on getting an Assistant Educational Psychologist job instead?

My original plan was: finish this teaching year, get QTS, then work abroad while doing a part-time master’s in Educational Psychology or something related like EAL, bilingualism, or cultural inclusion and then apply for the doctorate later on.

Would that teaching + master’s route be better for my CV, or would going straight into Assistant EP work give me stronger, more direct experience for the doctorate?

Would love to hear from anyone who’s been through this what’s the smarter path?
