My portal updated earlier today to DP for Econ Research. Do we know yet if that means an expected offer this year like the past?

I applied back on Nov 12th. Final year econ undergrad at a top RG, currently averaging a first (74) and in the top 5% of my cohort. Additionally have a 2-year research scholarship for experience.

Applied on the 2nd of October and I'm still "under review". Should I just give up any hope now?

I am following this thread on behalf of my son, as he does not have the time. After reading threads from previous 4 years, I’ve come to the following conclusion: For MPhil programmes in this department, decisions often seem to follow a pattern:
Wave 1 (late January / early February): clear admits
Wave 2 (late February): strong but more competitive candidates
Wave 3 / clean-up (March–April): a small number of additional offers alongside rejections
They only started sending out decisions last Monday, so I believe we are currently between Wave 1 and Wave 2. I’m not sure whether subsequent waves depend on earlier acceptances, but many applicants decline offers for various reasons (funding issues, LSE or Oxford offers, etc.). Altough very similar, but LSE and Oxford courses are little bit preferable than Cambridge course.
I also assume there is no single academic responsible for assessments. Instead, MPhil/DPhil applications are likely distributed across different academics, groups, or possibly even colleges (while still being evaluated against the same overall pool). As a result, the timing of outcomes can vary.
In short: NO, don’t lose hope. I wish you will get offer.

wow, a really insightful analysis, more or less in line with what I inferred based on my own experience and understanding of the process - many many thanks!

This checks out honestly. But they do also say if you apply before the November funding deadline you should hear back by the end of Feb. So I guess there’s an application timing aspect in terms of submitting before or after the funding cutoff too.

Congrats! What are the conditions? And is it econ or Econ research?

Reply 57

Anyone received an offer for MPhil in Finance? I have checked many discussions here and it seems like only offers for Econ were released so far.
